Whoa, finally a book that gets it! Sam (the main character) has a long abuse history and has developed anxiety and depression because of it. The way the author narrates her voice makes it easy to relate to her experiences. We have all been nervous about new people or afraid of certain things and unable to express our feelings. I am so happy to see an accurate representation of these issues. Sam is likeable and resilient, making you root for her when she hits the hard parts. We need more powerful female leads, especially as teenagers! Sam says things that I thought only I experienced. It's intuitive and emotional. This book is tremendously validating and artfully written. I was pulled in from the very beginning.The scenery is stunning and makes me want to be in nature more. Theory helps Sam heal and wears the hat of therapist/mentor/sorceress. She has great, realistic advice that is achievable to anyone reading it. It's almost like therapy in a book! I've been taking my time with this book because it is so dense with helpful material, but also easy to get through. Adults of all ages, therapists and educators will find this book to be an excellent read and resource about a topic that hasn’t had language or a story to draw from, or relate to. All of the characters are loveable (and multicultural!) and I'm already dreading the end of it because hate to let them go. A very powerful read for anyone having a hard time, or for anyone that needs something magical and extraordinary in their lives!

One of the things I liked was the magical aspect of this novel - found it quite fascinating. I voluntarily reviewed a copy of this book.
Sam's Theory is now in my top 10 books, which is big for a bookworm like me. As a licensed clinical social worker who loves to read young adult novels, I didn't think I could be surprised, but this book did it. It found a way to wind together the magic of self-discovery and empowerment with the magic in the forest, and makes you believe at least a little bit in both. I want to buy this book for everyone I know!
Mendivel is a therapist who wrote this YA fantasy novel to use as a creative way to help young people heal from trauma. It is a terrific resource for young people dealing with difficulties because it provides practical help in a creative and entertaining way.

Sam's Theory is a fantasy adventure story about a 15-year-old girl named Same who runs away after she is abused. Hiding in the forest, Sam meets an old woman named Theory who helps her with some magic and sage advice. Scared for her little sister, Nova, and with the help of her friend, Dodger, and two other kids, Sam sets up a hidden camp in the wilderness and forms “The Orphan’s Collective.”

The book offers creative advice on how to cope in the face of trauma. It acknowledges the problems young people face, including depression, suicide, abuse, neglect, and loneliness, and provides positive tools and applied examples of healthy behavior changes.
Wow. It's been a while since I've been this into a book! Sam's Theory is a story about a teenager that heals from trauma and then uses that energy to empower others. It is inspirational, offered amazing advice that I'm now following in my own life, and was visually very beautiful. I can totally see this book becoming a movie. I can see each scene so clearly and it gives you a world to escape to. I am grateful for someone finally writing a book for people that have abuse histories. I would highly recommend this book to anyone, but especially for those that have secrets to tell. The messages are deep and the characters are all so likeable! This book enforces the idea that all of our stories matter, and Sam helps us to be brave enough to tell them. Even the message from the author at the end is inspirational! I'm hoping for a sequel! Very well written.
Sam's Theory is written by a lady that understands what it means to be a survivor of childhood sexual abuse. Fifteen-year-old Sam runs away in order to survive and finds healing and hope in the form of a mysterious lady named Theory. Sam finds safety for the first time in her short life. She finds someone who wants to hear her story and helps Sam start her healing journey. I loved the book and would recommend it to all of my survivor friends and to any teen who is traveling a similar path to healing.
