A Finger in Every Lie Stephanie Daniels mystery short story Book 1 edition by Denise Swanson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks

When I selected A Finger in Every Lie, I didn't know what a short story it was! The preparation for the problems related to the uncompleted, shabby work, put me in mind of a real story developing about all the i finished buildings, and in tolerable flaws in the buildings, I had
anticipated a builder who would make his promises, busywork, then eventually leave things a mess in the housing development. But thIs got just knocked off after an afternoon. This left me feeling dumped by the author, just as the buyers had felt by the builder! I feel more like this was a chapter as part of a short story, but....didn't happen! This could have been done a bit better as a short story!

A Finger in Every Lie Stephanie Daniels mystery short story Book 1 edition by Denise Swanson Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews

I really enjoyed reading this mystery short story. It pulled me in by the second paragraph and was everything I expect and love in a mystery. This author's writing style is definitely above average and I look forward to reading more of her books. I like this short story so much, I only wish it had been a whole book....but definitely worth the purchase.
I’ve just found and read the Stephanie Danielson short stories. More of these would be perfect for Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine! Want to know if she and Ben Hacker get together permanently.
I rated this story 5 stars because it was a fun read, a light murder mystery. I love all Denise Swanson books and wasn't disappointed with this one. Just wish it were longer but there's a next one out there. Going to read that next.
Somewhere downstate Illinois is a town called Scumble River, it's like Mayberry with death. Denise Swanson has meandered through this series with enough twists and turns to keep it interesting after over fifteen years. Then comes The Dime series, a bit more edgy and set in the KC area town of Shadow Bend, Missouri. This short story is like a TV pilot that you want to see become a series......
A short story can be tricky to write. You have to have an interesting mystery, but your characters
have to be three dimensional. As usual, Denise Swanson does a great job with both. I'm always charmed by how deftly she creates a character with a few words. And the plot this time was intriguing. I didn't get the how or whodunit until the very end. And the interaction of the characters makes me hope this is the beginning of another long and successful series for her.
A Finger in Every Lie by Denise Swanson is a short story is like an all-encompassing outline that the reader would like to see evolve into a new series. A short, sweet, well written novella. The characters are well developed and the plot is tightly woven. Stephanie is a recently widowed, former reporter who moves in with her divorced mother. The real estate developer is sleazy and dies under unusual circumstances. To maintain her freedom and clear her name, Stephanie must quickly put on her sleuthing hat and find the murderer. I would love to see these characters return in a full length book. Perfect quick read!
I like Denise Swanson's Scumble River series. That said, this short story shows promise. It's hard to have well-developed characters with so little story to work with, but if she decides to go from this to a full length novel, I'll be happy to read it. A recently widowed daughter is trying to start over, but must live with her newly divorced and over-needy mother in a house that needs a lot of repairs just to return some value to it. Angry neighbors have the same issues, so add a dead body, and you have the start of something that could be really interesting. Unfortunately short stories need faster solutions than this kind of plot could really use, so the author stuck with the stereotypical go-to killer. This has the makings of a nice mystery. Maybe next time.
